India vs England 1st Test: India To Target England With Spin At Motera

The time has come when India and England finally face off in the 1st of the 4 Test Series. The 1st Test will be played from November 15 at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad. Both teams are evenly matched and it promises to be a high voltage series.

INDIA: After the retirement of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, it is going to be the first time that India are going play a test series against a good quality bowling attack. But the Indian youngsters certainly back a punch and will look to fill their shoes somewhat. No one can doubt the ability of Pujara and Kohli with the bat. The inclusion of Yuvraj Singh is a great advantage as he can be useful with the ball too.

The Indian opening duo of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag has been failing for a long time and everyone will want them to score big in Ahmedabad. India is likely to go in with 4 bowlers. Zaheer, Umesh, Ashwin and Ojha will be the four front-line bowlers in the team with Sehwag and Yuvraj rolling their arms at some stage of the game.

ENGLAND: They are the side that whitewashed India 4-0 in 2011 in their home to become the No.1 side in Tests. They are currently placed No.2 in the rankings. England have not won a Test Series in India for 28 years and they will like to end the drought this year.

Captain Cook, Bell, Pietersen and Trott will be the men to watch out with the bat as far as England are concerned. Anderson and Swann will be men that India need to be wary off because both of them are world-class bowlers. So be ready to witness this fantastic battle as it kicks off on Thursday.

The Match Will Start At 9.30 am IST.

Indian Test Team For England Series Announced

The Indian Test Team for the first 2 Test Matches against England in the 4 Match Series has been announced today, 5th November, by Sandip Patil, who is the Chairman of the new Selection Committtee.

The selectors have chosen a 15 member squad for the first two test matches, which consists of 8 batsmen, 1 wicket-keeper, 3 spinners and 3 pace bowlers. The 1st Test will start on November 15 in Ahmedabad and the 2nd Test on November 23.

Much of the selection was on expected lines apart from a couple. Murali Vijay and Harbhajan Singh have been included in the side, even after their failures in the domestic circuit. Yuvraj Singh is back in the Test Team after his consistent show in the past few matches. Suresh Raina had to miss out as he could not find a place in the 15 man squad.

There was a fitness issue over Zaheer Khan after he pulled out yesterday in the Ranji Trophy match. He had to undergo a fitness test today and is alright. The selection of both Rahane and Vijay has sent out a strong message to Gambhir and Sehwag because they have been failing consistently over a period of time. Selectors have shown that there are options open top them as far as the openers are concerned.

Here is the full 15-Member Squad for the First 2 Tests Against England:

  • Gautam GAMBHIR
  • Virender SEHWAG
  • Cheteshwar PUJARA
  • Sachin TENDULKAR
  • Virat KOHLI
  • YUVRAJ Singh
  • Mahendra Singh DHONI (C & WK)
  • Ajinkya RAHANE
  • Murali VIJAY
  • Ravichandran ASHWIN
  • Pragyan OJHA
  • HARBHAJAN Singh

India 'A' vs England Warm Up Match: Yuvraj Singh Shines as Match Ends In A Draw

England's 3 Day Warm Up Match against India 'A' ended in a Draw after both teams scored big runs in the 1st innings. But the most important thing that came out of the match was the performance of Yuvraj Singh. He not only scored a quick 59 in the first innings but also took 5 wickets for 94 runs to prove his fitness in the longer version of the game.

India 'A' batted first and managed to get to 369. Manoj Tiwary starred with the bat as he notched up 93 runs in 150 balls. Abhinav Mukund too got into the act and made 73. But the highlight was the knock of 59 in 80 balls by Yuvraj Singh that stole the show on Day 1.

England's new opener Nick Compton failed as he was dismissed early. But Captain Alastair Cook and Samit Patel made merry on Day 2 and Day 3 as both of them scored centuries. Matt Prior and Jonathan Trott too chipped in with half-centuries as the England innings folded up for 426, leading India 'A' by 57 runs. Yuvraj Singh shone with the ball as he took 5/94 which included the price scalps of Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Samit Patel and Matt Prior.

India 'A' then ended Day 3 at 124/4 with Ajinkya Rahane scoring 54. This warm up match proved to much more important for India rather than England as it ensured Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane and Manoj Tiwary atleast a good contention before the selectors meet on November 5 to select the Indian team for the first Test vs England starting November 15.
