IPL QUALIFIER 2: CSK thrash DD at Home

The Men in Yellow were up and roaring again at their home venue in the MA Chidambaram Stadium as Chennai Super Kings beat the Delhi Daredevils by 86 runs in the 2nd Qualifier of DLF IPL 2012. Delhi  Darevils had won the toss and took a strange decision to field first. The shocking news came when the Daredevils skipper announced that the Purple Cap Holder Morne Morkel was been rested for the game. Irfan Pathan was too out due to a finger injury. Chennai Super Kings certainly had the upper hand when the match started. Murli Vijay announced himself on to the scene right from the word go as he notched up 12 runs in the first over. He and Hussey provided a rollicking start to the CSK innings as the duo put on 68 for the first wicket in just 8 overs. Hussey was then dismissed for 20 but Raina did not let the momentum fell down as he supported M. Vijay pretty well. Vijay completed his 50 in real quick time and CSK were 127/1 at the end of 13 overs and were looking set for a huge total. Raina departed for 27 but that brought the skipper MS Dhoni to the crease and he continued from where he had left off in the last game.Vijay was a class apart and he completed his 100 in just 52 deliveries. He became the first Indian batsman to score 2 centuries in the IPL. Dwayne Bravo provided the much nedded momentum in the end as he finished on 33 not out off 12 balls. Murli Vijay was run out of the last ball of the Chennai innings and he ended on 113 in 58 balls. CSK had reached 222/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Delhi Daredevils had a huge task ahead of them and David Warner and Virender Sehwag were the men upon whom Delhi Daredevils were banking upon to do the task. But Sehwag took another strange decision by not deciding to open the innings as he sent Warner and Jayawardene in. Warner was out for just 3 in 7 balls and Sehwag too departed for a mere 1 in 6 balls. Jayawardene was hitting boundaries at the other end but he needed some support from the other end. Taylor smacked 2 sixes of Jakati and Delhi saw a glimpse of hope but when Bravo got the better of Taylor for 24, Delhi Daredevils were all but out of the match and also out of the race for the IPL Championship. Mahela Jayawardene scored his 50 and gave something to cheer to the Delhi Daredevils fans. When Mahela was foxed by a carrom ball by Ashwin,it was the final nail in the coffin as far as the Delhi Daredvils were concerned. Finally Delhi fell 86 short of the target and Chennai Super Kings sealed their berth in the final.
