London Olympics Football : Mexico vs Japan Live Semifinals

MEXICO BEAT JAPAN 3-1.

In the Football event of the London Olympics 2012 , the battle for the semifinals are just about to kick off , with 4 teams eagerly awaiting their turn , the Final Showdown will be underway in the Wembley Arena . The first Semifinal of the night featuring Mexico against Japan , will be the first major attraction at the wembley . 

Mexico were very convincing in the Quarterfinal Rounds as they overhauled a comparatively weaker counterpart Senegal 4-1 , after 90 minutes of play , as eventually the game into the extra time . Mexico , also defeated   teams like Switzerland  , Gabon and drew with South Korea , on their way to the Semifinals .  The Japanese team on the other hand eliminated Egypt from the competition in the quarterfinals , winning by by a comprehensive margin of 3 goals .

 Egypt were the last team representing the African continent in the last 8 . Though starting their Olympics campaign with a loss against Spain , Japan has eventually  managed to make their way into the Semifinals of the London Olympics 2012 . Now , it will only be spectacle to watch , as teams lock horns for a spot in the Finals . The other Semifinal later this night will be featuring Great Britain against South Korea .

London Olympics Athletics: Usain Bolt Wins Gold

Thunder'Bolt' struck once again at the Olympics as Usain Bolt created a new Olympic Record in the 100m Event in the London Olympics.

Usain Bolt won the 100m Event as he completed the race in just 9.63 seconds and also defended his Beijing Gold Medal. Usain Bolt was slow to start but he picked up his pace in the last 35m or so.

Usain Bolt has now become the Second man after Carl Lewis to successfully defend his title at the Olympics.

London Olympics Tennis: Serena Williams Beats Maria Sharapova To Complete Career Slam

Serena Williams Completed a Career Slam after she beat Maria Sharapova of Russia in the Women's Singles Tennis Gold Medal match at the London Olympics on Saturday.

Serena Williams totally annihilated Sharapova as she beat her 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets in what was a totally one sided encounter.

Serena Williams has now become only the Second Woman after Steffi Graff to complete a Career Slam. This was Serena's first Gold Medal in the Singles tournament at the Olympics.

London Olympics Badminton: Saina Nehwal Wins Bronze Medal | India's 3rd At The Games

It was Saina Nehwal all the way on Saturday as she bagged a Bronze Medal in the Women's Singles Badminton tournament at the London Olympics.

Saina Nehwal created history by becoming the first Indian to win a Medal in Badminton at the Olympic Games and only the 2nd woman after Karnam Malleswari to win a Medal for India in the Olympics.

Saina Nehwal won the Bronze Medal match after her opponent Xin Wang retired due to an injury. Saina Nehwal thanked her parents, her coach P.Gopichand and all her well-wishers and said that she will certainly try hard to change the colour of the Medal at the Rio Edition of the Olympics.

This was India's 3rd Medal at the London Olympics after Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar won a Bronze and a Silver Medal respectively.

London Olympics Boxing: Devendro Singh Storms Into The Quarter Finals

Indian Boxer Devendro Singh stormed into the Quarter Finals of the Men's 49 kg Catergory Boxing Tournament at the London Olympics after beating Mongolian Serdamba Purevdoj 16-11.

Devendro was leading right from the start as he won the first round 4-3. Same was the case in Round 2 as Devendro finished 8-5 up.

Devendro Singh was simply splendid in the last round as he extended the lead to 5 and won the bout 16-11. Devendro had knocked down his opponent thrice during the match.

Devendro Singh became the 2nd Indian boxer after Vijender Singh to Qualify for the Quarter Finals at the London Games.

London Olympics Boxing: Vikas Krishan Robbed Of A Quarter Final Place

Indian Boxer Vikas Krishan was knocked out of the London Olympics after he lost a controversial bout to his American rival Spencer in the Pre Quarter Finals of the 69 kg category.

After the match had ended, Vikas Krishan was declared the winner 13-11. At that stage, he had secured his place in the Quarters.

But the American Spencer challenged that decision and appealed against it. After nearly 2 hours, AIBA awarded 4 points to Spencer and he was declared the winner 15-13.

It was a real shocker because the same thing had happened to Sumit Sangwan 3 days ago. Sumit had won his bout comfortably but was shockingly declared the loser. He had appealed against that decision, but his appeal was rejected.

AIBA has certainly shown double standards in their decision making and the whole Indian contingent are going to raise their voices in protest in London as early as possible on Saturday morning.

London Olympics Shooting: Joydeep Karmakar Misses Bronze By A Whisker

Indian Shooter Joydeep Karamakar missed the Bronze Medal by a whisker as he finished 4th in the 50m Air Rifle Prone Event at the London Olympics on Friday.

Joydeep Karmakar had earlier shot 595 out of 600 in the Qualifying Round to qualify for the finals. In the Finals, Karmakar scored 104.1 to finish with 699.1 in the end.

Joydeep Karamakar really shot well in the finals but missed the Bronze Medal by 1.9 points. Gagan Narang could not qualify for the finals as he finished 17th in the Qualifying Rounds.

London OIympics Tennis: Leander Paes and Sania Mirza Sail Into The Quarter Finals

India's Mixed Doubles duo of Sania Mirza and Leander Paes sailed into the Quarter Finals of the London Olympics after they beat the Serbian pair of Ana Ivanovic and Nenad Zimonjic 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday.

With all the Men's and Women's Doubles pairs knocked out, Leander Paes and Sania Mirza remain India's last hope at the London Games as far as Tennis is concerned.

Paes and Sania will now be facing the top seeded Belarusian pair of Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi in the Quarter Finals.

London Olympics Boxing: Vijender Singh in Action Tonight

India's star boxer and a strong Medal Hope Vijender Singh will be in action tonight at the London Games in the Round of 16 in the 75 kg category.

Vijender Singh won his first bout easily and will take on USA's Terrell Gausha in the Round of 16. Vijender is a big Medal prospect and all eyes will be on him when he enters the ring tonight.

Indian Badminton star Saina Nehwal cruised into the Quarter Finals of the Women's Singles Badminton tournament at the London Olympics after she beat Jie Yao of Netherlands 2-14, 21-16 in straight games.

Saina Nehwal became the Second Indian shuttler to reach the Quarter Finals of the London Games after Parupalli Kashyap booked his place in the Men's Singles Quarter Finals.

Saina Nehwal will now be facing Tine Baun of Denmark in the Quarter Finals on Thursday.

London Olympics Tennis: Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan Crash Out

India's Men's Doubles pair of Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan crashed out of the London Olympics after losing to the French pair of Llodra and Tsonga in the Second Round match.

Paes and Vardhan fought hard but could not match the sheer quality to the Second seeded pair of Llodra and Tsonga and lost the match 6-7, 6-4, 3-6 in 2 hours and 10 minutes.

The Indian pair were able to give some torrid time to their French rivals and were quite impressive in their play. With Paes and Vardhan knocked out, India's challenge in the Men's Doubles Tennis also ends.

Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna too were knocked out on Tuesday. The last hope of India will be lying on the Mixed Doubles pair of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza who will be starting their campaign on Thursday.

Indian Badminton sensation Saina Nehwal will be going head to head against Jie Yao of Netherlands in the Pre Quarter Finals of Women's Singles Badminton tournament at the London Olympics on Wednesday.

London Olympics Hockey: India vs New Zealand Live

India will be locking horns with New Zealand in their Second Group B match at the London Olympics on Wednesday.

London Olympics Badminton: Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa Win, But Fail To Reach Knock-Outs

The Indian star badminton pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won their last group encounter on Tuesday when they beat the Singaporean pair of Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao 21-16, 21-15 in straight sets.

Gutta and Ponnappa were leading right from the beginning and did not allow Sari and Yao to come back in the game. They won the match comfortably in 35 minutes.

Even after this win, Gutta and Ponnappa failed to qualify for the knock out stages as they were placed Third in their group. They were tied with the Chinese Taipei and Japanese pair, but failed to qualify due to points won and lost in all matches.

This is a big setback to India's Medal hopes as Gutta and Ponnappa were one of the strong contenders in Women's Doubles Badminton Tournament.

London Olympics Tennis: Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna Knocked Out

The Indian Men's Doubles pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna was knocked out of the London Olympics after they lost to the French pair of Gasquet and Benneteau in straight sets on Tuesday.

Bhupathi and Bopanna lost the match 3-6, 4-6 in just 77 minutes. They were completely outplayed by the French pair and could not even pose some sort of challenge.

In their last game, Bhupathi and Bopanna were stretched to the limits, but they still fought hard. But this time the French pair ran away with the game.

There was a lot of controversy over sending Bhupathi and Bopanna as a pair to the London Olympics and with them being knocked out in just the Second Match is going to raise a number of questions.

The other Indian pair, Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan, were also scheduled to play their match on Tuesday. But due to rain their match was postponed. They will be in action on Wednesday.

London Olympics Boxing: Manoj Kumar Wins An Easy Bout

Indian Boxer Manoj Kumar reached the Pre Quarter Finals of the Men's 64 kg category Boxing tournament at the London Olympics after he beat Turkmenistan's Serdar Hudayberdiyev 13-7 on Tuesday.

The first round was a close one with both boxers playing cautiously. The score was tied at 2-2 at the end of Round 1. Manoj Kumar displayed his skills well in the second round to take the round 7-3.

With a 4 point lead behind his back, Manoj played defensively in the last round and won it 4-2. Manoj Kumar will now face Thomas Stalker in the Pre Quarter Final on Saturday.

Hashim Amla And Jacques Kallis Create History At The Oval

Hashim Amla was the man of the moment on Day 4 of the 1st Test at The Oval as he became the first South Africa batsman to score a triple century in the history of Test Cricket. Hashim Amla scored an unbeaten 311 in 529 balls, which included 35 fours. He did the pioneering work of guiding South Africa to 637/2 dec in reply to England's 385. He first shared a 259 run stand for the 2nd wicket with Captain Graeme Smith and then added unbeaten 377 runs for the 3rd wicket with Jacques Kallis. Hashim Amla beat AB de Villiers' score of 278* which he had scored against Pakistan in the Middle East.

Jacques Kallis was somewhat overshadowed by the knock of Hashim Amla. Kallis too played brilliantly and registered his 43rd Test Century. Kallis remained not out on 182 in 326 balls, which included 23 fours and a six. Kallis dedicated this 100 to his best friend Mark Boucher by indicating to his eye after reaching the milestone. Kallis was also involved in a record partnership of 377* runs along with Hashim Amla. Both of them have guided South Africa to a very strong position as South Africa have an overall lead of 252 runs in the 1st innings.

Mark Boucher Retires From International Cricket

The 35 year old South African Wicket-Keeper Mark Boucher retired from all forms of international cricket after suffering a serious eye injury during their warm up game against Somerset at Taunton. Mark Boucher was standing up to the stumps to Imran Tahir without a helmet when Tahir bowled the batsman G. Hussain and a bail hit the left eye of Mark Boucher.

Boucher immediately fell on the ground and there was blood coming out of his eye. The physio had to help him get out of the ground. He will now have to undergo an eye surgery. After this incident, Graeme Smith announced in his press conference that Mark Boucher has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.

Graeme Smith read out a statement on Boucher's behalf which said, "I never anticipate announcing my retirement now but circumstances dictate differently. For now, I would like to thank a huge number of people for their heartfelt support for the last 24 hours. I now head onto a road of uncertain recovery."

The whole cricketing world will be praying for his quick recovery and will miss him in the future. Boucher holds the record for the most number of dismissals in Test Cricket.  He has given his all to this wonderful game and surely deserved a better stage for retirement.

BCCI nominates Rahul Dravid for Khel Ratna and Yuvraj Singh for Arjuna Award

The Board of Control for Cricket in India forwarded the names Of Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh to the Government for the Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards respectively. The Government extended the deadline for nominations to July 20 and BCCI nominated these two cricketers.

Rahul Dravid, former India Captain, who just retired from all forms of international cricket has scored more than 24,000 international runs and will be one of the nominees for the most prestigious Sports Award in India-"Khel Ratna". Only 2 cricketers (Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni) have received this award uptil now. Rahul Dravid has served Indian Cricket for the past 16 years and certainly deserves to be nominated for the Khel Ratna.

Yuvraj Singh was nominated for the Arjuna Awards, keeping in mind his brilliant show with both the bat and the ball in the ICC World Cup 2011. He was the architect of India winning the World Cup. Who could forget his fight with Cancer and the kind of courage and determination shown by him while combating with it. He is a role model for the youngsters and and his stature justifies his nomination to the Arjuna Awards.

India's Squad vs Sri Lanka Announced

Sachin Tendulkar opted himself out of the 5 ODI Series and One-Off T20 vs Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka starting on July 21. The selectors decided to send a 15 member squad for the series which included 8 batsman, 3 spinners and 4 pacers. Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan were back in the ODI Squad after missing the Asia Cup. Irfan Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja could not make the cut as both were quite unimpressive in the Asia Cup and IPL. Ajinkya Rahane got his reward for his superb show in the IPL and is on the trip to Sri Lanka. Harbhajan Singh, who was just signed by Essex for the County season, was not considered for the tour as R. Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha and Rahul Sharma were the 3 spinners selected for the tour.
