Robert Lewandowski scored the opener in the early 17th Minute mark , which was followed by a stupendous display of satisfaction through an emphatic celebration , from the polish International .Shortly after some time it was defender Jose Holebas of Greece , who earned himself an yellow card after his tackle was ruled out by the official Referee as an act of unsporting behavior . Bookings however, were quite prevalent throughout the first period of the match with Sokratis Papasthatopoulous being Sent Off after conceding a second yellow card on the 45th minute mark just moments from half time . The 1st half ended with chances between far and few , Greece however in spite of largely dominating the first period of the game , failed to capitalize and ultimately the first half of the opening game of Euro 2012 , featuring , Poland vs Greece ended as 1-0 .

The Second half however saw a rejuvenated Greek side , with couple fresh faces in the squad, Dimitris Salpingidis coming on for Sotiris Ninis .
Samaras played a convincing second half and looked the most consistent player on the pitch for scoring the second goal of the game , however he threw away an easy chance from a kick just outside the edge of the square , with no one but goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny between him and the goal . Just minutes later , it was substitue Dimitris Salpingidis who dawned as the savior for the Greece team scoring the equalizer on the verge of 56th minute . The Greece crowd went wild and players were emphatic finding their way back into the game , Greece kept on creating constant pressure on the Polish Defence consistently .
Poland had their even share of shots at the goal and looked the most likely team to score , after a gifted free kick was awarded just outside the edge of the penalty box , however the Polish Player blew this chance out as well . It was then Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny who conceded a penalty by bringing down the danger man Dimitris Salpingidis inside the penalty box and eventually earning a red in the process . Przemyslaw Tyton , the second goalkeeper came in for midfielder Maciek Rybus .
Greece almost found themselves ahead , when it could have been 1-2 in favour of the Greeks after Dimitris Salpingidis goal was termed as an offside .
Thus finally the first game of the EURO Cup 2012 featuring Poland vs Greece ended in 1-1 draw , with both teams earning 1 point each .
