Remember Portugal vs Netherlands in World Cup 2006 . ?
Deco being Sent Off |
Figo vs Van Bommel , during one of the many incidents of the game |
Sure you do , it's not everyday in football that you get to see 4 players sent off and 12 Yellow cards in a span of just 90 minutes of a single game .
Tackles ! Violence and a fierce competition that featured throughout the game , and it seemed more like Gladiators inside the Colosseum fighting each other , rather than athletes , violence on the pitch escalated to such an extent that it led some of us to think , the game might probably be called off ,as there were more players heading towards the dressing room to start their own football match , than those few remaining on the pitch ! .
Yes ! and so it was on one of the glorius stages for showcasing pure football , where one would expect the perfect justification of the word 'Beautiful' in the "Beautiful game" , rather we were left witness to one of the most violence ridden , ruthless personification of the game in the history of Football ! .
Fortunately enough, the game did finish off that night, 1-0 in favor of the Portuguese ,who would have the game fresh in their memory for a long time to come . The Dutch , however in coherence to that game back in 2006 ,haven't had much luck in their Campaign this year for European Glory .
With , two disappointing defeats as the hands of Denmark and Germany respectively , the Dutch brigade are almost out of picture , for featuring in the last eight of the competition .Their , chances of advancing this year is virtually nullified . Portugal on the other hand have had a similar fate in their beginning endeavor loosing 1-0 to Germany , however they are now back in the fight after a succesfull victory against Denmark in their last game . Bothe the Portuguese are now level in terms of points , thus tonight's decider will be crucial for either side to book a place in the Quaterfinals . While Portugal start their battle against the Dutch , Denmark will Confront Germans in Lviv , Ukraine . Bothe Netherlands and Portugals have a point to prove tonight as they look to silence the critics .
