Super Sunday in IPL 5 began with a packed house at the Wankhede Stadium ion Mumbai.Sachin Tendulkar was fit again and back in the Mumbai Indians side . The sad part of the story was that their star strike bowler Lasith Malinga had gone back to Sri Lanka due to a sore back. He was replaced by another Sri Lankan Thisara Perera in the playing XI. The crowd was on its feet when Sachin Tendulkar walked out to open the innings with James Franklin .Kings XI Punjab had a superb beginnig with Praveen Kumar starting with a maiden, beating the bat of Franklin five times. Sachin Tendulkar and James Franklin started the innings in a grand fashion until Tendulkar was run out on 23 with the Mumbai score reading 51. Rohit Sharma departed soon after and that brought Dinesh Karthik on to the crease to lend support to Franklin. The two did well to up the ante and added 75 for the 3rd wicket in just 36 balls. Mumbai Indians were looking set for a massive total but a misunderstanding between Karthik and Franklin resulted in a bizarre run out of Karthik who scored 35 in 20 balls. This proved to be the turning point as Kings XI Punjab strangled the Mumbai Indians as they could manage , just 34 runs in the last five over .Mumbai Indians reached 163 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs, with Franklin being the top scorer with 79 runs in 51 balls .clearly , Mumbai were about 20 runs short of what they would have thought.
The two young Punjab openers were out in the middle against a strong Mumbai Indians bowling line up , Nitin Saini and Mandeep Singh began in gutsy and determined fashion providing the much needed start for Punjab .they put on 48 runs for the 1st wicket .Pragyan Ojha drew first blood ,as he trapped Saini plumbed infront for 30 runs.Mandeep fell soon after for 24 runs and the experienced , Australian pair of Shaun Marsh and David Hussey ,was at the crease now .
Kings XI Punjab relied heavily on them .they did not disappoint too as the duo put on 58 for the 3rd wicket before ,Hussey was dismissed by Pollard .The Match went right down to the wire as Kings XI Punjab needed 20 of the last two overs.Munaf ,Bowled the first four balls very well and swung the match in favor of the home side .But just then ,Marsh hit over Mid wicket for a six .With 9 needed of the last over . Perera was handed the ball ,Marsh whacked Him for a six over point and the match was sealed as far as Kings XI was concerned .Punjab won with 3 balls to spare with Marsh finishing on 68 not out in just 40 balls .
