Super Kings avenge Pune Warriors

The battle of the two great Indian Captains turned out to be quite an exciting one as Dhoni's men emerged victorious by 13 runs. Having won the toss, Sourav Ganguly put the home side in to bat on a good looking Chepauk track. CSK had omitted M.Vijay from the XI and S.Badrinath was the new opening partner for du Plessis. The pair began the innings cautiously taking 1's and 2's. Pune opened their bowling with the experienced left arm spinner Murli K artik and he bowled economically in the powerplays. Du Plessis was the aggresor and was looking in sulime touch. The two Chennai batsman played really well and got CSK off to a superb start. Both of them scored 50's as CSK reached 115 for no loss in 15 overs. Samuels was handed over the ball and he did the job for Pune. He dismissed both the openers in the same over. Raina was out for a duck as he tried to pull Nehra, only to find Kartik at fine leg. Suddenly CSK were 119/3. Then Bravo joined MS Dhoni at the crease and the duo started to gather some quick runs. CSK closed the innings in a brilliant fashion with 18runs been scored off Samuels in the last over which included a mammoth 103 m six by Dhoni. Dhoni finished with 28 off 12 balls and CSK at 164. Samuels took 3 wikets for the Warriors.

Ryder and Uthappa were handed the responsibility of providing a good solid start to Pune. But Kulasekarar had other ideas and he dismissed both the openers cheaply in successive overs. The burden was on Dada ang young Manish Pandey to score the runs. Dada was looking in a demolishing mood as he smashed 18 runs off Bollinger in the 6th over. Just as Pune were looking on track to chase the score down, Pandey, Ganguly and Samuels got out in quick succession and their side was reduced to 97/5. Still needing 68 in 40 balls, Mathews and Smith begen the repair work and got Pune to 140/5 in 18 overs. Needing 25 runs of the last two overs, Smith fell toBollinger as he tried to hoic one over long on. Bollinger bowled an excellent over and gave away just 5 runs. 21 of the last over was a high mountain to climb and when Mathews was bowled on the first ball, all the hopes of Pune were shattered. Ultimately, the Warriors fell shrt by 13 runs. Here are the scores in brief:
