It was Didier Drogba’s night at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday as
Chelsea heads into the 2nd leg of the Champion’s League Semi -Final with a comprehensive advantage, as they confront the Spanish Giants
Barcelona ate their home turf at Camp Nou , it was the old guard Ivory Coast striker who
muscled his team forward to snatch away a rather satisfying victory ,for the English side.
Though the game was largely dominated by the Catalans, who under the assistance
of their marksman Lionel Messi gave the
Blues a real hassle as the hosts were
struggling to keep up the with the sudden breakthroughs ,followed by frequent menacing runs by the wonder boy Messi
.
The first half was a pretty one sided affair as the away
team completely dominated the game with 24 attempts on goal whereas the host
were only able to manage a single shot on target , the English side was
terribly outplayed in terms of possession
during the first phase of the game but they were successful in converting a
well orchestrated attack through the flanks as the Brazilian Ramires threaded across a cross towards the Ivory coast international , who
struck it down and low below the reaches
of Victor Valdes .Thus ensuring a late advantage into the First Half .
The Catalans had their
share scoring chances, when a goal seemed to be a certainty, was just minutes
away from the break as it was again Lionel Messi, who raced towards the opposition's goal with menacing
pace, and with assistance from former arsenal star Cesc Fabregas , but the Spaniard's
effort was nullified by the agile Ashley Cole who cleared the ball away to
safety . Barcelona produced many potent chances during the second half of the game, but were unlucky with their scoring ,though the
match statistics are more in favor of the Spanish giants but the missed out on
the most crucial part of a football match.
It was Chelsea coach Di Matteo who had the last
laugh as the blues go in to the 2nd Leg of the Champions League Semifinal
with an advantage , but facing the Spanish Armada on their home turf would be
the main challenge for this new coach.
