WEST INDIES-257 & 53/2
Match Drawn.
Man of the Match-KEMAR ROACH
The 2nd Test between Australia and West Indies ended in a draw at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad. rain played spoilsport throughout the test match and not a single day saw 90 overs being bowled. Austalia were batting first and the two Aussie left handers Cowan and Warner provided a solid start to the visitors. Watson looked as solid as ever and scored 56. Hussey scored 73 as the Australian 1st innings folded up for a mere 311. Kemar Roach was the star with the ball as he took 5/105.
The West Indian reply began poorly as they lost 3 wickets for just 38 runs. Darren Bravo and Shiv Chanderpaul steadied the ship for the home side and added 62 for the 4th wicket. just as the score reached 100, Bravo gave away his wicket and was out after scoring a gritty 38. Narsingh Deonarine then joined Chanderpaul at the crease and showed great patience and resilience. These two were scoring runs intelligently and slow got the score past the 200 mark. West Indies were 230/4 and were looking as if they would surpass the Aussies easily. But Nathan Lyon came to the party and dismissed both the set batsmen in a space of 2 overs. Chanderpaul was lbw for 94 and Doenarine was stumped for 55. The Aussie spinners put pressure on the Windies and they were bowled out for 257, losing the last six wickets for just 27 runs. Lyon got a 5 wicket haul.
With a handsome lead of 54 in the bag, the Aussies began their innings poorly losing Warner and Watson for just 26. Australia continued to lose wickets consistently with only Ponting and Wade showing some fight. Kemar Roach was looking very threatening and all the Aussie batsmen were struggling against him. At the score of 160/8, having a lad of 214, Clarke decided to declare the innings and set a target of 215 for the home team to chase in 61 overs.Roach took 5 wickets again and got hios maiden 10 wicket haul in test cricket.
West Indies were looking in a mood to chase the target down as they decided to open with Barath and Powell. Both the openers were dismissed cheaply by Hilfenhaus and it seemed that Australia would bowl out the Windies. Sammy promoted himself to No.3 in the batting order in the seach of quick runs. He began well, scoring 30 off 26 balls. Darren Bravo supported him well. West Indies were 53/2 in 11 overs when rain came down on the last and final day with West Indies still needing 162 runs in 50 overs. It could have beeen a great game of test cricket, had not the weather interrupted it. Ultimately the play was called off and the test was declared a Draw. Australia still lead the series 1-0 with the 3rd and last test beginning on Monday. Here are the scores in brief:
