London Olympics Opening Ceremony Highlights


Red Arrows flying Over Olympic Stadium

Friday night saw a fabulous start to the London Olympics as the Opening Ceremony unfolded in a scintillating fashion. The ceremony saw appearances by Daniel Craig, Rowan Atkinson, Sir Paul McCartney, Bradley Wiggins and  many others. The Opening Ceremony was directed by the Oscar winning director Danny Boyle. A total of 10,000 performed at the ceremony in front of 80,000 spectators at the Olympic Stadium. Here we bring you the highlights from this fantastic ceremony.

Bradley Wiggins Begins The Olympics Opening Ceremony
The newly crowned Tour de France Champion and British Cyclist Bradley Wiggins rang a huge bell at the Olympic Park to mark the beginning of the Opening Ceremony of the London Games. The crowd at the Olympic Park went ecstatic as the 6 time Olympic Medallist walked up to the stage to ring the bell.

Mr.Bean Makes The Crowd Go Crazy
Rowan Atkinson, popularly known as Mr.Bean made the crowd go crazy during the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics. Rowan Atkinson took centre stage as a part of the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by famous music conductor Simon Rattle.

Queen Elizabeth Plays A Cameo With Daniel Craig
Queen Elizabeth played a cameo with Daniel Craig in a surreal film and that brought the spectators on their feet. It was an informal appearance by Queen Elizabeth and it drew huge cheers from the crowd. Danny Boyle needs to be given the credit for this masterpiece.

Greece Leads Players' Parade At The Ceremony
The traditional hosts of the Olympics, Greece, led the 204 nations and their athletes into the Olympic Park during the Opening Ceremony.

Indian Contingent Receive Huge Cheers
There were huge cheers at the Olympic Park as the 81 strong Indian Contingent, the biggest ever, entered the Stadium led by Sushil Kumar, bronze medallist at the Beijing Olympics 2008. The Indian contingent carried yellow as their premier colour, apart from the traditional blue colour.

Queen Elizabeth Declares The London Olympics Open

British Queen Elizabeth II declared the London Games Open in front of a crowd of 80,000 and a television audience of about 1 billion across the globe.

Sarah Stevenson Takes Olympic Oath
Britain's taekwondo athlete Sarah Stevenson took the Olympic Oath on behalf of all the athlete taking part in the London Olympics. Holding one corner of the Olympic Flag, Stevenson swore that she and other athletes of the London Games would commit themselves to a sport without doping and without drugs.
