"Gayle" Storm hit the Sabina Park on Saturday as the home lad struck a mind boggling century to register another win for his team. West Indies beat New Zealand by 55 runs in the 2nd ODI to take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match series. Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels scored centuries to take West Indies past 300. Chris Gayle was adjudged the Man of the Match for his 125 in 107 balls.
Kane Williamson had won the toss and invited the home team to bat first. Once again, Simmons failed with the bat and was dismissed for just 3. Dwayne Smith joined Chris Gayle in the middle and the two put on 88 for the 2nd wicket taking West Indies close to the 100 mark. After the dismisssal of Smith, another Jamaican Marlon Samuels came to the crease. The Jamaican duo was enjoying each others company and hammering the ball to all quarters. Gayle reached his 20th ODI 100 in the process before being caught in the deep for 125. The Jamaican pair shared a 129 run stand between them. Samuels completed his ton and it was his 1st ODI century in 7 years. Late flourish by Captain Darren Sammy helped West Indies reach 315/5 in 50 overs.
New Zealand had a big target to chase down and with the kind of inexperienced batting line up that they have, it was going to be a difficult task. Guptill provided a slow but steady start to the innings and scored a 50. Captain Williamson and Watling kept on fighting, but the target was way too big. They added 70 runs for the 5th wicket in just 9 overs. But after the dismissal of Williamson, no one could provide the support to Watling at the other end and he fought a lone battle. Watling remained unbeaten on 72 in 62 balls as New Zealand were bowled out for 260. West Indies won the game by 55 runs and once again proved their dominance over the inexperienced New Zealand side.
