London Olympics Rowing: Swarn Singh Enters Quarter Finals

Indian rower Swarn Singh Virk entered the Quarter Finals in the Single Sculls event of the London Olympics after winning the repechage round on Sunday. He faced a tough challenge from his South Korean rival but he eventually got past the finishing line.

Swarn Singh had finished fourth in the heats on Saturday and so had to compete in the repechage round on Sunday.  He took 7:00.49 to complete the 2 km distance. The 23 year old will be competing in the Quarter Finals which will be held on Tuesday.

Swarn Singh was leading the five-rower race right from the start and only the South Korean Kim gave him some challenge. The others were left behind a long way. Swarn Singh finally ended up winning the race by a lead of one-and-a-half boat. Kim has also qualified for the Quarter Finals.
